If you’re familiar with Adwords, you’re probably use Sitelinks. If you don’t use Sitelinks, start right now. Sitelinks are 1-6 links that you can place below your ad, when your ad appears as the number one ad above the organic results. Its a great way to draw attention to your ad, take up some extra real estate on the page, and funnel traffic to other pages besides your main PPC landing page.
The additional links catches your eye, and usually increases click thru rate for the ads. Its really a must for any PPC campaign, especially on brand campaigns where your ad will usually be in the top position most of the time anyways.
Sitelinks are great but, you know what catches your eye even more…
Thats right, symbols in your Sitelinks. I know what your saying “Waa? Witch!”. But, its actually a pretty simple workaround. Technically, this is against Google’s instructions for setting up Sitelinks but, sitelinks are manually checked by Adwords, so they should be able to run for a long time before they are disapproved. When they do get disapproved, give it a couple weeks, then set them up again.
Here’s how its done. Go to this site http://www.alanwood.net/demos/wingdings.html, and copy any image you’d like, then simply paste the image into the Sitelinks editor box called “Link Text”. That’s it.
It usually takes a couple minutes for Adwords to start showing the new Sitelinks but, they’ll show up, and you’ll be able to tell from the increase in CTR.
Let me know if anyone has any issues with disapproval’s in a short amount of time. I’ve been able to run hacked Sitelinks for at least a couple weeks before anything comes up disapproved.
